A little background about our lab and the dissemination of electrophysiology of language
Time flies! ACESIN Lab began operating in 2006. One of the laboratory’s first graduate students was Marije Soto. In the pictures above she is the blond woman wearing glasses. Marije defeded her master’s degree in 2009, supervised by Aniela França. Today Marije is a professor at Dep, of Sign Language (UFRJ), a member of the Graduate Program in Linguistics and was the main instructor in this 2022 workshop. The EEG we used in her experiment was acquired with funds from the CNPq Universal Grant. In the photos you can see two male participants. The one wearing glasses is Alex de Carvalho, the other is Thiago Oliveira da Motta Sampaio. Alex is now a professor at the Université de Paris. At the time he was an undergraduate student at ACESIN. Aline Manhães (CEFET-Rio) appears standing next to Alex, giving her super electrical engineering support, to make sure the quality of the signal was good. She was also Marije’s co-advisor. The other participant in the same experiment is Thiago Oliveira da Motta Sampaio, now a professor at IEL, UNICAMP . Juliana Novo Gomes, with her hand on her chin, appears next to Marije adjusting the computer before another running another participant. Juliana is currently a Neuroscience of Language professor at the University of Minho, Portugal. At the time, she was a master’s student and helped Marije as an assistant.
